All You Need to Know About Audi A6

audi a6

The 2022 Audi A6 is a sensible choice among luxury sedans, with high-tech amenities, a high-quality cabin, and a smooth and stable ride. There are two turbocharged engines available, with a four-cylinder powering 45 models and a strong V-6 powering 55 models; all-wheel drive is standard across the lineup.

The A6’s characteristics may be too comfortable for some drivers, but rivals like the BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-class don’t deliver sports sedan maneuvers either. Instead, the Audi is equipped with a computerized dashboard and a plethora of driver-assistance systems to appeal to current purchasers.

Audi A6 2022

For 2022, Audi has added more of its signature infotainment technology to the A6 series, including a larger 10.1-inch infotainment display and its Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster. All models now include rear-side airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system that has been improved. The Black Optic package (black exterior trim) is now available on entry-level 45 cars, and the optional Sport package on 55 vehicles now includes a new 20-inch wheel design.

The Premium Plus 55 trim level, with its standard turbocharged V-6 engine, is our pick.

This model boasts a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree exterior camera system, among other features that premium purchasers will find appealing. A power trunk lid, multicolor ambient interior lighting, four-zone automatic climate control, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats are included with the Executive package.

Audi A6 Engine and Transmission

The A6’s two powertrains—a 248-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 335-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6—are more than capable of hauling this mid-size sedan around town. The engine’s stop-start mechanism and other ancillary equipment are powered by a 12- or 48-volt starter/alternator in both powertrains.

A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is Quattro all-wheel drive. On the highway, the V-6 provides plenty of push for merging and passing. It went from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds on our test track. Despite this impressive performance, it falls short of outrunning its main competitors, the BMW 540i xDrive and Mercedes-Benz E450 4Matic.

The 540i ran in 4.5 seconds, while the Benz took 4.6 seconds. The A6 performs better as a luxury sedan than a sports sedan, despite its superb cornering capabilities and smooth ride. We liked how well-balanced the car handled and how precise the steering was, but we never felt fully involved while tackling tricky parts of the road.

Fuel Economy

The EPA gave the A6 good fuel economy ratings, and choosing the V-6 over the turbo four-cylinder isn’t much of trade-in terms of efficiency. The four-cylinder A6 scored 32 mpg on the interstate, just three more than the V-6. During our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, however, our V-6-powered test vehicle got an amazing 32 mpg. This puts it ahead of the Benz (30 mpg) and BMW (31 mpg), but behind the ultra-efficient Lexus ES350, which achieved an amazing 39 mpg in the same test.

Audi A6 Interior

The interior of the A6 is sleek, sophisticated, and well-crafted from high-quality materials. The seats and armrests are trimmed in soft leather, the dash and doors have rich-looking wood and nickel-finished metal trim, and the majority of the A6’s secondary controls—climate, drive mode, and so on—are managed by a big touch-sensitive screen under the main infotainment display.

Similar technology is employed in the A8 luxury sedan and the Q8 crossover, and it works well and gives nice tactile feedback, despite our usual gripes about touchscreen controls being taken over. The A6 is ideal for moving cargo because of its big trunk and easy-to-fold rear seatbacks. With the rear seats folded, the Audi had significantly more room than either of the other two, holding 20 cases versus the Benz’s 18 and the BMW’s 16.

Infotainment

In this edition of the A6, Audi’s popular MMI infotainment interface gets a major overhaul. It replaces the center console’s click-wheel controller with changeable menus that let users tailor the layout of the home screen to their preferences. All variants come standard with a 10.1-inch display, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and onboard Wi-Fi, as well as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital gauge display. A 10-speaker audio system is standard, but the 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen system that comes standard on the Premium Plus and Prestige variants is highly recommended.

Audi A6 Safety

Audi has a number of basic and optional driver-assistance systems, such as a system that monitors traffic to prevent you from stepping out into the path of a moving vehicle.

Conclusion

Audi’s approach to modern elegance is shown by the A6. The A6 is a little bigger and roomier than its predecessor. Its refinement and technology enhancements, which are among the best in the midsize car market, are even more important. The A6’s Quattro AWD system is still at the heart of the driving experience.
